Tokyo: Make Glass Furin Chime & Daruma, Asakusa-Ueno Tour
Tokyo Town Walk & Furin, Daruma
Move beyond the standard tourist trail and immerse yourself in the authentic world of Japanese craftsmanship. If you are a traveler who seeks "hands-on" culture rather than just sightseeing, this journey into the heart of Tokyo's artisan districts is designed for you.
Experience the heat of the kiln and the soul of the artisan on this unique cultural journey from Asakusa to Ueno.
1. Discover the "Golden Route" of Asakusa (Morning Walk). Your journey begins with a panoramic view from the Asakusa Culture Tourist Information Center. Before visiting the workshop, enjoy a special walking tour through Tokyo's deep culture.
We will stroll through Sumida Park, the nostalgic "Denbouin-dori" (an old Edo-style street with dagashi shops), the lively "Asakusa Rokku" entertainment district, and the famous "Kappabashi Kitchen Town" (look for the giant chef statue!) as the shops begin to open.
2. Create Your Own Edo Glass Furin (Blowing & Painting). Arrive at the renowned Shinohara Maruyoshi Furin workshop just as it opens. Unlike standard tours, you won't just paint-you will breathe life into molten glass. Under the guidance of a master craftsman, blow glass to create your unique shape. Once cooled, paint your design and learn the secret behind the "jagged edges" that create the soothing sound of a Japanese summer.
3. "Time Travel" Walk & Ameyoko Food Discovery After the workshop, we walk through the Satake Shopping Arcade, the second oldest in Japan, for a retro "time travel" experience. Then, dive into the "Food Labyrinth" of Okachimachi and Ameyoko. Your guide will recommend authentic local spots—whether it's hidden sushi bars, savory ramen, or traditional set meals—where Tokyoites actually eat.
4. From Chaos to Chic: "2k540" & Daruma Painting Experience a dramatic contrast as we move from the bustling market to "2k540 Aki-Oka Artisan," a sophisticated craft street tucked under the train tracks. In this "all-white" hidden gem, you will visit Happy Daruma to design your own "Tokyo Daruma." Paint the left eye and make a powerful wish to take home as a spiritual souvenir.
5. Relax in Ueno Park & Easy Departure. Conclude your tour with a walk through the historic Ueno Park. Visit the famous Statue of Saigo Takamori and the Kiyomizu Kannon-do Temple (famous for its "Moon Pine"). The tour ends at JR Ueno Station "Park Gate" (Koen-guchi), a beautiful wooden station building located right in front of the park, ensuring an easy and confusion-free departure.
