Part of the Tokyo Yamanote Line Walk series — slow walks through the neighbourhoods along Tokyo's famous loop line, one station at a time. Yebisu Beer was brewed here from 1890 until 1988, when the brewery closed and the site was redeveloped into Yebisu Garden Place — a complex of restaurants, a cinema, a Mitsukoshi department store, and the Tokyo Metropolitan Museum of Photography, which occupies the former malt store and has one of the best photography collections in Asia. This four-hour walk starts at the garden, explores the museum, then moves into the residential streets of Daikanyama and Ebisu — the neighbourhood where Tokyo's architects, designers, and photographers have been opening studios and cafes for thirty years. It is one of the most pleasant places in the city to walk slowly.
