TOKYO Neighbourhood Walk: Harajuku — Forest, Shrine & Street Fashion
From a forest shrine dedicated to an emperor and empress to streets where Tokyo's youth reinvent themselves every weekend, Harajuku contains multitudes. This private walk connects both worlds.
Part of the Tokyo Yamanote Line Walk series—slow private walks through the neighbourhoods along Tokyo's famous loop line, one station at a time.
Harajuku is two neighbourhoods in one. Step off the train and walk one direction: you enter the deep green approach to Meiji Jingu, a Shinto shrine completed in 1920 and dedicated to Emperor Meiji and Empress Shoken. Walk the other direction: you find creative backstreets and Takeshita Street, where youth culture, fashion and food trends are constantly rewritten.
During this four-hour private experience, spend around three hours walking at a relaxed pace, then sit down for approximately one hour of lunch with your guide. The route connects forest paths, shrine rituals, Omotesando backstreets and the energy of Takeshita Street. Because the tour is private, conversation, pace and emphasis can follow your interests rather than a fixed script. A simple neighbourhood lunch is included for guests aged six and over.
Pricing note: This is a private tour priced per person. Solo travellers: ¥18,000. Groups of 2–6: ¥15,000 per person.
